In the dying moments, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and caretaker boss Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and handed the stand-in Chelsea manager a career-defining moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane could be billed as the Premier League's greatest managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to cherish the 40-year-old for years to come.

A Glaring Contrast in Pedigree

On the home bench was the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for football's giants Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the visitors' dugout, stood a former coach at lower-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had worked in City's own academy and stepped up to make his senior managerial bow after being temporarily promoted from his regular role guiding Chelsea's youth teams.
